Apple seems to be working on a variety of solutions to help with laptops overheating. As Patently Apple reveals, the Cupertino-based company patent points to a laptop that has extended pins. Apple MacBooks currently have pins that are fixed.
The idea from this patent suggests that these pins could be changed by pulling or pulling from the laptop on command. Raising the laptop above the surface will allow better airflow under the device, which will lead to less heating, especially during more intensive use.

The patent also suggests that this could be an automated function. Depending on the internal temperature and the fan speed, the laptop pins could be pulled out automatically when more cooling is needed.
Apple points out in the patent that this technology would enable better airflow without the need to redesign the thermal elements in the laptop.
