Apple has started production of the iPhone 13 at the Foxconn plant located in Chennai, the capital of the state of Tamil Nadu in southern India.
While this doesn’t mean too much for Apple’s global buyers, for those in India, this is great news, as local production should significantly reduce the price of the device. When the company first started manufacturing the iPhone 12 in India, prices fell by approximately $ 185.
India charges customs duties on consumer electronics products that are assembled abroad and imported, so Apple products usually cost more in India compared to other markets.
Recall, that the new iPhone is not the only one produced in India. The “Cupertino giant” also produces the iPhone 11 and 12 there. So this decision marks another step in Apple’s reduction of its dependence on China, which is otherwise the primary manufacturing hub for many technology companies.
