Sony introduced the first version of the PlayStation VR back in late 2016 and since then the Japanese company has not represented its successor. Logically, the presentation of the new generation of PlayStation, in the form of PlayStation 5, was awaited. As the PlayStation 5 was introduced at the end of 2020, the presentation of the new generation of VR – Sony PlayStation VR 2 – has been expected for some time.
Earlier this year, Sony announced plans to release a second version of the PlayStation VR, while a month later the company also unveiled the design. However, Sony has never announced a launch date, or even a time frame when the PlayStation VR2 could be unveiled. However, the assumption was that this would happen by the end of this year, but Ross Young (of Display Supply Chain Consultants) provides somewhat different information.
VR display shipments to rise >50% to >15M in 2022 despite delays to 2023 at Apple and Sony. Big jump forecasted in 2023.https://t.co/4m1FfgkeoM

The Leaker reports that the PlayStation VR2 will not be introduced until next year. It is not known if Sony actually had an original plan to introduce VR2 next year, or was originally supposed to be introduced this year, so there will be delays. In that sense, it can be expected that Sony will present the Pro version of the PlayStation 5 – PlayStation 5 Pro together with VR2.
The PlayStation VR2 is designed to work with the PlayStation 5, using a USB-C cable. This cable will transmit 4K HDR images at 90 Hz or 120 Hz. Compared to the 2016 VR, the VR2 will have a much wider field of view of 110 ° and a much sharper image thanks to two OLED screens with a resolution of 2000 x 2040 pixels.
The DSCC predicts a huge jump in VR sales in the future, both Apple’s, which has been talked about for some time, and Sony’s.
