Bandai Namco expected the Elden Ring game, FromSoftware Studios, to sell four million copies in five weeks. Even that result would be impressive, considering that Dark Souls 3 sold three million copies a month after its release.
However, Elden Ring exceeded even the boldest expectations. The game has sold 12 million copies worldwide. Of that, a million copies of the game were sold in Japan alone, all 18 days after the title was announced.
According to the official announcement, the mentioned results date from March 14, 2022, and are based on the distribution of physical copies and digital versions of the game.
With this, Elden Ring completely broke some previous records, which are linked to games from the Souls genre. The ax previously sold two million copies in 10 days, while the Dark Souls 3 game took four years to reach 10 million copies sold worldwide.

The achievement of the Elden Ring has already been compared to that of Pokémon Legends Arceus, which sold 6.5 million copies in seven days – but it should be noted that it achieved a title from a franchise that already had a large number of fans.
The Elden Ring was released on February 25 for PlayStation 5 and 4, Xbox Series X | S, Xbox One and PC via the Steam platform.
