Sony is officially ending sales support in Japan, bringing to an end one of the most famous gaming consoles, the Sony PlayStation 3. Gamers will no longer be able to get official parts and accessories. Although it seems a little sad to see the end of such a beloved product, we are still talking about the console that was published in 2006, more than 15 years ago.

The Sony PlayStation 3 console was one of the best-selling and most famous gaming consoles in history. Some specific models even supported PlayStation 2 and PS 1 titles, and although the console was a success, it was discontinued in 2015 and 2016. News of the end of support comes as Sony is likely to run out of spare parts to repair this console.

This morning, PlayStation Japan posted a tweet saying:

” Due to depleted parts inventory, we will no longer be able to provide after-sales service for the PlayStation 3 CECH-4300 series head unit and all PlayStation 3 peripherals on April 30, 2022. If you are considering applying for this service, please submit your request as soon as possible. as soon as possible! ”

This means that if you are in Japan, you can repair your PlayStation 3 for some time to come, as accessories and first-party parts will soon no longer be available. Of course, you could rely on the third-party market and other used PlayStation 3 consoles, but the repair will be more difficult as time goes on, and the devices become rarer. Even for users outside of Japan, this is important news, because the company will probably no longer produce parts and accessories, and they will also not reach other international markets.
