Smart Access Storage (SAS) is a new AMD technology that should increase the speed of SSDs, but details are still very insufficient for now. According to leaks, the first laptop to use it will be the Corsair Voyager.
What is also known is that Corsair is preparing its first gaming laptop and that its premiere is scheduled for June, which somewhat coincides with the Computex 2022 fair to be held in late May.
What is Smart Access Storage?
Smart Access Storage is an innovation that enables data acceleration (SSD), so that games run faster, that is, load faster.
Don’t confuse Smart Access Storage with Smart Access Memory (SAM), a technology that provides better performance by allowing the CPU full access to GPU memory. This way achieves direct communication and reduces latency between CPU and GPU; AMD responds to competing Resizeable BAR technology.
DirectStorage?
Whether AMD will reinvent hot water and introduce something similar to Microsoft DirectStorage technology, which was introduced after the Xbox console and on desktop computers, remains to be seen.
DirectStorage speeds up loading time on NVMe SSDs and allow games to run faster by boosting storage performance during the game. Suppose Smart Access Storage turns out to be just a version of Direct Storage technology. In that case, we will be disappointed, especially since profound innovations are expected from AMD in the long run.
On the other hand, Computex is getting ready in just a few weeks, so we have more reason to hope for exciting things, including the Corsair Voyager laptop, which can be a breath of fresh air in the gaming laptops market.
