The race to build a metaverse is heating up. While Meta claims to have created more than 10,000 digital worlds so far, chipmaker Qualcomm is investing millions in providing impressive augmented reality experiences. Currently, hundreds of brands want to launch their stores in the metaverse, and there’s Nvidia has just made a move that could appeal to a number of creators of virtual worlds.

Omniverse Cloud
Nvidia calls its metaverse Omniverse, not only because it wants to sound different from Meta, but also because they coined the name a full year before Meta appeared in the news.

At Nvidia’s Omniverse, 3D designers share a virtual world where they can create, and their service is used by more than 700 companies, including Lockheed Martin, Sony Animation Pictures, and BMW.

The company also introduced the Omniverse Create application, which enables the creation of digital worlds in real-time. Technically savvy users can easily view views using the View app, powered by the GeForce Now platform.

Microsoft plans
Nvidia’s move makes the metaverse more accessible to creators, but also to customers who will now be able to harness the power of the cloud and experience the metaverse on their laptops and smartphones.

Omniverse has thus surpassed Meta, but so has Microsoft, which also intends to get involved in building a metaverse. Earlier this year, the company announced plans to take over Activision, strengthening its position as a metaverse builder. With its cloud services, Azure, Microsoft could follow the path of Omniverse and place its version of the metaverse in the cloud.
