It has been known for some time that Infinity Ward will release a new Call of Duty game this year, and now Activision Blizzard has officially announced it.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2022) will be a sequel to the Modern Warfare (2019) reboot, and the game will be released later this year – most likely in November.
“This year’s Call of Duty is a sequel to Modern Warfare from 2019, which is the most successful title to date and will be the most advanced experience in the history of the franchise,” said Activision Blizzard. A new Modern Warfare 2 logo has also been posted on Twitter.
Infinity Ward has refreshed the Modern Warfare series in 2019, although some familiar characters have returned. This year’s title will be a continuation of that game and will be separate from the original Modern Warfare 2, which debuted in 2009.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will have the task of getting the franchise back on its feet after Call of Duty lost more than 50 million players before the Vanguard release. Then, in 2023, a complete reboot for Warzone 2 is expected.
