Microsoft, along with Apple and Mastercard, will suspend all new sales of its products and services in Russia in response to the country’s military action in Ukraine, the company said.
Microsoft is the latest company to leave Russia and condemn its attack on Ukraine, following financial sanctions imposed by a number of governments in an effort to isolate Russia from the rest of the world.
“We work closely with the governments of the United States, the European Union, and the United Kingdom, and are disrupting many aspects of our business in Russia in line with our government sanctions,” said Microsoft President Brad Smith.
Smith also said that the company will continue to cooperate with Ukrainian officials, to help defend against Russian attacks on cyber security, adding that they “violate the Geneva Convention”, which imposes restrictions on traditional warfare.
