The personal data of more than half a billion Facebook users appeared on the Internet on Saturday, which indicated the difficulties of this company to store sensitive information, reports Bloomberg.
The leaked information includes:
- a phone number,
- Facebook identification,
- full name,
- location and previous locations,
- date of birth,
- email address,
- private status,
- and biography, according to the American agency.
Sensitive personal data of over 500.000.000 Facebook users has been leaked to a hacker forum, posing a potential risk to millions of cryptocurrency traders and people who may now be vulnerable to various online attacks, claims Alon Gal, technical director of security firm Hudson Rock, who posted this information on Twitter.
All 533,000,000 Facebook records were just leaked for free.
This means that if you have a Facebook account, it is extremely likely the phone number used for the account was leaked.
I have yet to see Facebook acknowledging this absolute negligence of your data. https://t.co/ysGCPZm5U3 pic.twitter.com/nM0Fu4GDY8

Gal claims that the data leak is related to a security error that was first discovered in 2019, and in January 2021, it was established that hackers could also use the information to access the user’s phone numbers.
The latest data leak has now spread to Facebook ID, full name, location, previous location, date of birth, (sometimes) email address, account opening date, private status, and resume.
According to Alon Gal, the information could now be useful to hackers for various types of scams as well as to serve marketing purposes.
