Google is working on a new feature for Wallet that would let you add a physical credit or debit card by simply tapping it on the back of your Android phone.
Right now, you have to either take a photo of your card or enter the details manually. But Google’s latest update hints at support for NFC (near-field communication) card reading. That means Wallet could grab the card info straight from the chip when you tap it against your phone.
This feature isn’t live yet, but strings in the app’s code show it may be coming soon. The app could automatically pull in the card number and expiration date, though you’d still need to enter the security code manually.
It’s similar to how Apple added tap-to-add card support in iOS 17. Google’s doing something like it for Android users.
No official word on when the feature will roll out, but it looks like Google’s making Wallet setup even easier.
