Two years ago, Google attempted to redesign the Library section in the Google Photos app but later reverted to the original design. Now, the company is making another effort to revamp the library, introducing the new ‘Collections’ feature.
Google recently announced that it plans to replace the Library tab in Google Photos with Collections, aiming to help users “find what you need, faster.” While the tab will retain the same icon as the Library, it will provide quick access to Favorites and Trash folders, with other sections arranged in a 2×2 grid based on usage patterns.
The current ‘Photos On Device’ folder will be renamed to ‘On This Device,’ displaying images and videos stored locally on your device in a grid format. However, some users may find this change inconvenient as it requires an additional tap to access locally stored media.
The app will also include new sections such as Albums, Archive, Documents, Locked, People, Recently Added, Screenshots, and Videos. The Utilities folder will be removed, with its functions now distributed across separate sections: Free Up Space, Import Photos, Locked Folder, Make A New Creation, Manage Photo Frames, and Move Photos To Archive.
Google expects the new Collections tab to be available to most Android and iOS users in the coming days. If you haven’t seen the update on your device yet, try installing the latest software update on your Galaxy device.
