Following its rollout at the end of last month, Android users of Google Messages can now disable the Gemini button. This small floating action button, located above the rectangular “Start chat” button, provides quick access to the Gemini conversation.
To hide it, navigate to Google Messages Settings > Gemini in Messages > Show Gemini button. This option should have been available from the beginning, as the small FAB is quite noticeable. When scrolling through the conversation list, the rectangular button shrinks to a rounded square, but the sparkle container remains unchanged.
This new Gemini setting is widely available in the beta channel (version 20240808_01_RC00), though it hasn’t yet been released in the stable version, despite the button being present.
