Google has recently announced that its latest AI model, Gemini 2.5 Pro (experimental), is now available to all users of the Gemini app, including those on the free tier. This move aims to make advanced AI capabilities accessible to a broader audience.
What is Gemini 2.5 Pro?
Introduced earlier this week, Gemini 2.5 Pro is Google’s most advanced AI model to date. It integrates enhanced reasoning abilities directly into its framework, allowing for more complex problem-solving and improved accuracy. Previously, such features were exclusive to Gemini Advanced subscribers through the Google One AI Premium plan, priced at $19.99 per month in the U.S.
Features and Availability
The experimental model supports various features, including apps/extensions, file uploads, and the newly added Canvas functionality. Google aims to get this intelligent model into more people’s hands as soon as possible. Currently, Gemini 2.5 Pro (experimental) leads the LMArena leaderboard and excels in math and science benchmarks. The model is already accessible via gemini.google.com and will soon be available on the Android and iOS apps.

It’s unclear whether the stable version of Gemini 2.5 Pro will remain free for all users or if this broad availability is limited to the experimental phase. Previously, models like 2.0 Flash Thinking and 2.0 Flash were anticipated to be the free offerings.
This move aligns with Google’s recent trend of making more features available to all users, including Deep Research, Gems, Saved info, document upload/analysis, and image generation of people. However, Advanced subscribers still benefit from a 1 million token context window and higher usage limits.
