According to rumors and patents spotted on the web, Apple has started developing OLED panels that do not use a polarizer. In other words, Apple is likely to be working on its first foldable iPhone to use this screen technology.
The news comes from sources who reportedly have reliable information about the production process, and they shared the info with TheElec. By removing the polarizer on display – the panel will be even thinner, which means that it will also be suitable for a folding screen.
By the way, Samsung Display was the first to make an OLED panel without a polarizer, a panel used on the Galaxy Z Fold 3. This model was the company’s last foldable phone model (and its successor to the Galaxy Fold 4 phone is expected to be introduced soon).
So this means that Apple may also be planning to build its own foldable iPhone model. However, there is still no official confirmation of this.
There has already been a lot of news about Apple’s patents regarding foldable phones, but analysts believe the company plans to launch its first foldable device sometime by 2025. So the development of the panel for the flexible iPhone does not mean that it will be presented soon, but it is just a confirmation that something is happening.
As we all already know, Apple is a company that doesn’t sell half-finished devices, especially when it comes to something as radically new as a flexible device. There is a lot of work from creating new features to the technological and production process.
Apple’s entry into the flexible market will certainly encourage competition to develop its flexible offering further, and such competition is a recipe for innovation.
