Facebook has started sending notifications to users that it will start removing location-based features.
The social network plans to disable features such as Nearby Friends, but no specific reason for the move has been released. In addition, location data collected from users will be automatically disabled.
The Nearby Friends feature was added to Facebook in 2014 and was implemented to create a better connection between friends. The feature is available for Android and iOS platforms, which already have GPS tracking capabilities.
As of June 1, weather alerts, location history and background history will also be unavailable. As Facebook does not mention plans to return the mentioned functions, it is believed that they will be permanently removed.
As of May 31, the mentioned applications and services will stop collecting data on location and backgrounds in the background, and the user will not have to do anything. Facebook will automatically disable everything.
