Google is making its AI-powered search a lot more useful. A new update to AI Mode now lets you take or upload a photo and get smarter, more detailed answers based on what’s in the image.
This feature combines Google Lens with its Gemini AI, so it’s not just recognizing what’s in the picture—it can actually understand the whole scene. That includes things like how objects are arranged, what they’re made of, their colors, shapes, and even how they relate to each other.
Until now, this was only available to people with a Google One AI Premium subscription. But now it’s rolling out to more users in the U.S. through Google’s Labs program.
If you want to try it, just open the Google app on your Android or iPhone, tap the AI Mode button, then use the Lens icon to snap a photo or upload one. You can ask a question about the image, and the AI will give you detailed answers—plus helpful links if you want to dig deeper.
It’s another step in Google’s push to make search smarter and more interactive, moving beyond just typing words into a box.
